Every Works Is Different
A regional maintenance team can cover hundreds of water and wastewater treatment works, many of them unmanned and out of mobile coverage. The pumps, penstocks, chemical dosing plant, screens and valves were installed over decades by different contractors, and the manuals live in a cabinet or a document system the technician cannot reach from the site.
Steel.vision recognises the equipment in the camera view, reads the nameplate, and searches the manuals loaded on the phone for the passage that answers the question, citing the file and page. Answers are advisory and cited, never invented: if the manual has no entry, the app says so.
Built for Utility Sites
- No signal needed: detection, retrieval and the language model all run on the phone. Highland and island sites work exactly like the depot.
- No plant data leaves the device: manuals, images and questions stay on the handset. Cloud fallback is off unless the operator switches it on with their own key.
- Non-hazardous areas as standard: clean-water sites and most wastewater areas need no special enclosure. Digesters, wet wells and other DSEAR-zoned areas are outside the pilot scope unless an Ex-rated case is used.
- Pilot-ready paperwork: a risk-assessment annex, DPIA template and MDM deployment note ship with every pilot.
From Pilot to Site Licence
Pilots start with one regional team, their own manuals and a short golden-question check so retrieval is measured before it is trusted. Site licences follow the same footprint: managed iPhones, on-device models, and manuals the operator controls.
